Just came back from a business trip to Malaysia and here are my thoughts. Albeit being rich and better in infrastructure, things are cheaper in Malaysia, by a big margin.
Actually everything is expensive in India.
Just got back from a business trip to Kuala Lumpur and stayed in hotel Shangri-La. Cost per night? 12000 rupees! Of course the host paid for me, but a five star hotel in India is much more expensive.
For the uninformed, Malaysia has more than double per capita income than India.
I flew from KL to Georgetown for 1000 rupees. In Malaysia petrol cost just 35 rupees per litre. They produce less petroleum than India, the real reason is low taxes and govt subsidies.
On the other hand i was impressed with the infrastructure. Super clean streets, even no overhead power lines or cables. In every 500 meters in national parks they have installed AED (cardiac defibrillator machines) to save people from heart attack. This much their government cares for their people. And for us? Mandir masjid drama to fool us.
Oh another big difference, i haven't seen a photo of their prime minister anywhere. Not even in KL airport or on their TV. Polar opposite of India.
