200 pages into crime and punishment and not sure if it’s for me.
Hi everyone!
I have recently been getting more into classic literature and decided to read crime and punishment garnett translation and I know that this is considered a masterpiece but I am not sure if it’s for me and was wondering if it gets better?
My first major issue is the writing which is very dry. I know that this can be a translation issue rather than an author issue so I can’t judge the book on that but the other issue is the main character rodya.
I knew going into the book that it was a psychological thriller and dealt with someone who commits a crime and must face the psychological torment of doing so but so far he has been one of the most annoying characters I have ever read.
He constantly insults his friends who are unnaturally nice to him, makes the most insane choices and actions and goes on melodramatic rants.i know that this was the authors intention and he is not exactly sane but his actions have tired me to the point where I actively want to put the book down after a couple of pages.
Plus the plot has barely moved after the murder. My question is does the plot kick into high gear soon or does his delirium subside?
