Should I double down on frontend or start learning backend now?
Hi everyone,
I’m a beginner and I’ve recently learned React.js and built a few small projects. I also used Firebase as a backend (auth + database) to create a fully working website, so I have some basic experience connecting frontend to a backend service.
Right now I’m confused about my next step:
* Should I focus on becoming much stronger in frontend (React, advanced JavaScript, UI, state management, performance, etc.)? * Or should I start moving towards backend development (Node.js/Express, databases, APIs, authentication, etc.) and try to become more full‑stack?
My goal is to become hireable as a web developer in the future, but I’m not sure which direction will give me better chances at an entry‑level job and clearer learning path.
Given my current skills (React + Firebase), what would you recommend I focus on for the next 6–12 months? Any concrete roadmap or resource suggestions for either path (frontend‑heavy vs backend/full‑stack) would be really helpful.
