I wish more games would give player agency over how and when it ends
This afternoon I played one of my staple, Terraforming Mars, and I got to think why I so often come back to this one despite all of its shortcomings and the number of strategy games avalaible. I think a big part of it is the fact that there's no time limit set in stone. Knowing when to push to end and when to sacrifice some points to make the game last a bit longer is a major skill in this game and adds so much depth and complexity to it.
Most either have a fixed number of turns, or end when this or that draw pile gets emptied and everyone have to tap from it to functionnaly play so it doesn't make much of a difference. I find that especially sad in worker placement games and I wish more games and especially modern games would allow this idea of a completely player driven ending. #games source
