One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest | Rant, SPOILERS

Jesus fucking Christ, Batman. Where do I even begin? Spoilers ahead, obviously, but if you're reading this, I assume you've already read the book.

As a teenage girl, I've been trying to get into darker, more serious stories, and branch away from Dork Diaries. I started with Sin City and Watchmen, then Girl Interrupted, then I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, then Fight Club, and about a million other things. Most of these things are what my family calls cultural zeitgeists, and while I do know the actual definition, in our family, it means this:

Pieces of media that are so integral to pop culture as a whole that you have to rxperience them to really get the full experience.

However, what surprised my poor mother the most (Yes, more than me reading Girl Interrupted and IHNMAIMS,) was me asking her to take me to the library, so I could get One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

For more context, I'm head over heels for Brad Dourif. That is one of many reasons I was interested in the movie (I decided to read the book before watching the movie): I'll watch anything with him. Child's Play, Dune, Star Trek, Death Machine, et cetera. I first came across his character on Pinterest, somebody posted a photo of him from the movie. I thought he was gorgeous as always, but I winced a little once I saw the name of the film. As it being a cultural zeitgeist, I was familiar with it being incredibly dark. I figured I could handle it considering the other things I've read, and hell, some of the things I've written. I'm not easily disturbed, so at most, the subject matter made me grimace a little, like the fact that McMurphy raped a young girl. I end this very unorganized rant with this:

It is not often that media upsets me. If that were the case, I would hate my own writing. But Billy's suicide broke me. I genuinely cried, and I have only ever cried once before while reading a book. 7/10 because the running thing about Nurse Ratched's boobs made me laugh.
