Edge has killed 90% of "online PDF annotate" sites like OnlineNotepad, etc.

Before:

Windows: Edge = PDF reader with yellow highlighting, underlining, handwriting recognition, and integrated text commenting.
Linux: Edge (and Chrome) = the old Chromium PDF viewer; you could only read and print. No highlighting. So you had to use an external site to annotate.

Why the difference?
On Windows, Microsoft integrated its own PDF engine and Windows Ink directly into Edge. On Linux, they used the basic open-source viewer without their annotation layer, to avoid having to port Windows Ink.

Since late 2024/early 2025, they have finally standardized the process. Now even on Linux you have:

Open the PDF in Edge
Toolbar at the top > Highlight (or press Ctrl + Shift + H)
It's yellow by default, but you can change the color
Right-click on the highlight > Add comment
Press Ctrl + S and it saves the annotation WITHIN the PDF, not separately.
So there's no need to upload your PDF to a site that will store it somewhere unknown, just to add three yellow lines.

Tip: If you're on Linux and you still don't see the option, update Edge to version 128+:
