I'm new to chess

Hi everyone, I'm new to chess and I'm thinking whether to join my school's chess club, is the school club a good way to start as a beginner? I also play chess.com http://chess.com , I'm wondering if school is a good way to start or joining a competition is. Anyway, any answer you guys give, I'll put to consideration since school won't begin for another 6 days. God bless.
