There's a creature living in the Catacombs of Paris
I’ve needed to get this off my chest, as living with this knowledge plagued me. For the last couple of months, I’ve been studying abroad in Paris at a film school and overall, it’s been great, I’ve enjoyed my stay in the city of love, up until 3 days ago.
It was Sunday, and since I didn’t have much else to do, and I had completed all my classwork, I decided to visit the Catacombs. On the bus ride there I decided to read the Wikipedia article for it, and it did nothing but freak me out. The fact that it stretches for 200 miles, 200 miles of bone-filled tunnels, with most not even open to the public, and multiple people have gone missing in those very same tunnels really didn’t sit well with me.
I arrived a bit after noon, paid for my admission, and entered the catacombs. The air was damp and cold, with a vague metallic taste, ahead of me was a long limestone tunnel leading to the Ossuary. After walking for what felt like ages, I finally reached the Ossuary. All around me, bones lined the walls. It was disturbing, but oddly beautiful.
As I took in my surroundings, something caught my attention. I heard a faint scraping sound coming from one of the tunnels. A chill ran down spine, I knew I shouldn’t check, but I just couldn’t help it. I anxiously crept towards the source of the sounds, wondering why I had chosen to come here on my day off. As I was nearing the end of the tunnel I began to have second thoughts. Against my better judgement I poked my head around the corner.
**Then I** **saw it.**
I caught a glimpse of a tail, at least 3 or 4 feet long, adorned with bones. It dragged across the ground, the bones scraping, making that god awful sound. The creature seemed to notice me, turning around to face my direction. I ducked back behind the corner so whatever it was wouldn’t see me.
It lumbered towards me, bones dragging across the floor, and then it stopped. I could hear it breathing, deep, ragged, and wet, like its lungs were too weak for its body. After what felt like forever, it finally lost interest and left, as it returned to Its original route.
After checking it was safe, I got out of the Catacombs as quickly as possible, trying to forget what had just happened to me. The ride home felt off, I was on edge the whole time. I guess the only thing that can rival the fear of finding a giant creature living in tunnels of bones is public transit.
Ever since that day, no matter what I do, I can’t stop thinking about what I saw. I’m scared of whatever it is, but also a little curious. Within the next couple days, I’ll be going back to try to learn more about thing I saw, that creature in the Catacombs. #entertainment source
