Boss approved my half-day for a doctor’s appointment… then threatened to deny the next one if I don’t give 30 days notice

So I sent the following email today after securing and accepting a 20% raise to go elsewhere.

I’m done. Effective immediately, I quit.

The reason is simple and I’m not dressing it up: management acts like doctor appointments are some kind of luxury that only count if you give thirty days’ notice through the PTO system. That’s pure bullshit.

Medical care doesn’t run on your schedule. Specialists don’t care about your staffing matrix. Sick bodies and test results don’t wait for corporate approval. Treating necessary doctor visits like they need a month of advance permission is not policy—it’s control theater. It tells every employee their health is an inconvenience that only becomes legitimate once the company has had enough time to rearrange the puzzle pieces.

I didn’t just call out the day of. I gave every bit of notice I actually had. I tried to do it the “right” way. Management still treated it like I was the problem. That response makes the real message loud and clear: even when someone plays by the rules as best they can, the system is designed to remind them they are replaceable and their body is secondary.

This is what it looks like when people don’t matter. When leadership would rather protect a rigid rule than acknowledge that human beings get sick and need care on timelines they can’t fully control, the mask is off. You can call it consistency all you want. It’s still a clear signal that employees are just warm bodies to be managed, not people.

I’m leaving because of the management, not the job. People don’t quit good jobs. They quit bad managers who treat them like shit.
