Treat me like I’m stupid. Why did WW1 and WW2 weapons always use such massive calibers? I always found it amusing that WW1 and WW2 rifles always used serious rounds like .30-06, etc even though no one wore body armor. Meanwhile modern day militaries use anywhere from 7.62, 5.56, even 9mm, and now most soldiers have armor and there’s LAVs to contend with too.
