Survived severe CO poisoning years ago, but 6 different detectors never went off. How is this possible?
Years ago I was working up north and lived in health region housing that ran on propane. Long story short, the place had a massive carbon monoxide leak. It was awful... my dog actually died from it, and I ended up needing hyperbaric treatments X3!
But here is the part that still messes with my head. Toward the end of this nightmare when I started suspecting what was happening, I literally went out and bought 6 different CO detectors. Placed them around the unit..honestky even in the chimney. Not a single one of them ever went off or triggered an alarm. I even went and did some research, asked a few firestations, ect, no one could answer this.
How does that even happen? If there was enough gas in the air to kill my dog and put me in a hyperbaric unit, why were 6 brand new retail alarms completely silent? Do cheap home detectors just not pick up propane-based CO properly, or is there something else going on with how the gas settles? Thanx #conversation source
