The little fire ant has a reputation for pushing out native wildlife and raising hell on farms. Now it has turned up in Iligan, the first documented record of the invasive species in the Philippines.
MSU-IIT researchers poked around and found it in two communities in Barangay Rogongon.
It has crossed oceans and conquered islands, from the Americas through Africa to the Pacific.

oh gawd those ar horrible little pests! -I got stung or sprayed, -whatever, -by one in Colorado (although I was later told that this was more likely a 'harvester ant' and not the ubiquitous "fire ant" which is still further south towards the US/Mexico border, -but spreading northward...
