WThe involuntary protagonist
Three of the greatest comedic works ever in my opinion all share the same type of protagonist who is otherwise rarely seen. I'm speaking Bertram Wooster from P.G. odehouse's Jeeves series, Arthur Dent from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, and "the dude" from The Big Lebowski.
These are people whose only goal is to live a peaceful and undisturbed life but who are dragged kicking and screaming into some absurd plot that they're constantly trying to get out of.
They flip the script of the protagonist being someone who wants something or at least lacks something.
Is there a term for this type of protagonist, are there other good examples, and what are you takes on it in general?
