I'm reading East of Eden for the first time (banger), and I noticed that John Steinbeck will have a lot of implied action through dialogue and I've been loving it.
For example, a character will say something like "She's just outside. Now hold on. Don't get up. I just want to tell you something first." So you're to assume that the other character went to move but the initial character stopped them, but without writing it in.
Is there a name for this? And why does it seem like it's fallen out of newer books? I love the flow of it. #entertainment
