Has Anyone Read Cleaner by Jess Shannon?
Very interesting novel. The story is about a young woman, recent college graduate who can't find a job. She runs through the world as if everything is about her. Probably the most noteworthy thing about Cleaner is that there are no chapters and no paragraphs. It makes the novel run and run and run, which compliments the story and matches the main character's energy.
I am 50 and the main character is probably mid 20s. I could be in "get off my lawn" territory but Cleaner seems to accuratly channel the self-centeredness of the Tik Tok generation. It's possible to complain that the other characters are never really developed and they don't change, but that's the perspective of the main character. Everything is about her and she is able to float through life without doing much and without trying.
The unique prose style did make it difficult to figure out where to stop reading. Days or weeks could pass from one sentence to the next. This required me to pay attention and to reread passages often.
