🌧️ Bangkok authorities have declared all 50 districts of the Thai capital disaster-affected areas after more than 24 hours of heavy rain flooded roads and disrupted movement. Reuters reported rainfall above 150 millimetres in some parts of the city.
The governor said the flooding threatened lives and risked damage to public and private property. Authorities issued an advisory for people living near canals to move possessions to higher ground, and the city opened a shelter for evacuees.
Bangkok’s low-lying setting and canal-based drainage system make intense rainfall a recurring challenge. The declaration allows the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other agencies to coordinate their response more quickly.
🌊 Floodwater had receded in some areas by 27 September after torrential rain eased, while officials continued draining canals. Forecasts still warned of thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rain, so conditions could change with further rainfall.
