Frankenstein discourse can be so dumb sometimes.
I am so sick and tired of people babying Frankenstein's Monster. Genuinely. If you look me in the eyes and give me that bullshit "Knowledge is knowing Frankenstein is the doctor, wisdom is knowing Frankenstein is the monster" take, i am imediately assuming you're a larper and a tik tok reader.
This isn't Victor propaganda by any means. The Creature is my favourite character in the whole book, i love him so much. And it's because i love him so much that i despise it when people act like he's a poor, helpless cinamonroll who isn't to blame for anything bad that happens in the story.
My brother in christ. That guy murdered a six year old, pined it on an inocent woman who was executed for it and went on to kill two more completely inocent people purely out of spite. Yes, his actions are a direct consequence of Victor's neglect and abandonement. Yes, individuals who are only met with violence will most likely perpetuate that violence. But that doesn't remove his agency, does it?
It's not like Creature wasn't aware that he was doing something bad. In fact, his whole intention was to cause as much pain and suffering as possible. His actions were born purely out of hatred and cruelty, he wanted Victor to be completely robbed of love and human connection just like he was.
They are both monsters, they are both victmins of each other. That's the point of the book.
