My First Love — Episode 4: A Doodle & A Note
I didn’t go home after school.
I went to the stairs. Again.
His notebook was there. Mine, actually. He’d left it on the step, wedged under a brick so the rain wouldn’t take it.
My hands shook when I opened it.
Inside, my messy equations were still there… but now there were new doodles.
He’d drawn us. Me, holding puff-puff. Him, stealing it. Little rain clouds above our heads.
And at the bottom, in his slanted handwriting:
_“Sorry I missed snack. Mom’s okay now. Meet me here tomorrow? Same time. I’ll bring extra sugar. - T”_
I pressed the page to my chest.
He didn’t forget me. He was just scared.
The rain stopped. The stairs didn’t feel empty anymore.
