CHICAGO, April 11 - American dairy farmers are stepping up their efforts to stop the spread of bird flu by erecting barriers, chopping down trees to keep wild birds from landing, and cleaning any cars that enter their property. Following the U.S South Dakota became the eighth state on Thursday to discover highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a dairy herd. Infections have been reported in North Carolina, Texas, Kansas, Ohio, Michigan, Idaho, and New Mexico, according to the Department of Agriculture.
