BURGOS CIRCLE HIDES A GIANT FLOOD DEFENSE UNDERGROUND

Underneath the iconic Burgos Circle in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) lies a massive 72-meter-wide, six-storey deep retarding basin—an underground structure designed to temporarily hold floodwaters during heavy rain.

💧 When downpours hit, this basin stores excess rainwater and slowly releases it into nearby creeks leading to Manila Bay once the weather clears.

💰 Built during BGC’s early development at a cost of ₱60 million, this engineering marvel is one of only two retarding basins in Metro Manila—the other is under the Magallanes Interchange.

Thanks to this hidden giant, flooding in areas like EDSA and Kalayaan Avenue has been significantly prevented.
