Mayhem – "Freezing Moon" is a must.
This song is one of the most haunting and influential pieces in black metal history. The slow, eerie riffing combined with Dead’s (or later, Attila’s) chilling vocals creates an atmosphere of pure darkness and despair. Euronymous' guitar work is hypnotic, and the lyrics paint a bleak, almost surreal picture of death and isolation. It perfectly captures the raw, unfiltered essence of early Norwegian black metal.
