⚠️ Ethiopia’s federal government and Tigrayan authorities…

⚠️ Ethiopia’s federal government and Tigrayan authorities have accused each other of launching offensives, raising fears that fighting could return to the northern Tigray region.

Federal adviser Getachew Reda said Tigrayan fighters had taken control of federally administered airports and attacked in the neighbouring Afar and Amhara regions. Tigrayan authorities said their forces had entered a defensive war after reports of drone strikes.

The two-year war in Tigray ended with the African Union-brokered Pretoria agreement in November 2022. The accord called for a permanent cessation of hostilities, humanitarian access and the restoration of services. 🕊️

Reporting on alleged strikes and casualties has not been independently verified, and the federal government had not commented on the reported strikes. Ethiopian Airlines cancelled flights to Tigray after the airport seizure, while renewed fighting could again endanger civilians and aid access.
