Besides quantity, why do people prefer Shakespeare to Milton?
I love Shakespeare, King Lear and Hamlet are some of my favorite works of all time. However, while reading Paradise Lost, I have encountered, in my opinion, better language, emotions, and concentration, than anywhere, especially Shakespeare. Upon returning to Shakespeare, through plays such as Macbeth and Othello, his language has felt dull, and his characters like cardboard. These expirences have made me ask myself: Why do people like Shakespeare more than Milton?
Again, I adore Shakespeare, please do not think I am hating on him.
