Indonesian rescuers are searching for 140 people after the passenger ship Virgo Transport 8 lost contact in the Java Sea. Of 103 people evacuated, one died. 🚢
The ship was travelling from Surabaya to Banjarmasin after departing on Saturday. Authorities said the operator had reported bad weather before contact was lost.
Early accounts put the number aboard at more than 240; reports differed over whether the figure referred to passengers alone or all people on the vessel.
Rescue teams deployed ships and a helicopter toward the last known position. The ship’s condition and the cause of the incident had not been confirmed. 🌊
