⚖️ Opening statements began August 17 in Las Vegas in the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, charged in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. Davis has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors allege Davis organized a retaliatory shooting after Shakur’s entourage beat Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, outside a Mike Tyson fight at the MGM Grand. They say Davis did not pull the trigger.
The case comes nearly 30 years after Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, and died six days later. Prosecutors plan to use Davis’ past police interviews and his 2019 co-authored memoir, while defense lawyers dispute the state’s account and the reliability of its evidence. 🎤
