Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic start issue

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding an issue I had with my 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic.

Last Sunday, I wanted to take the bike out for the first time in a long while. After prepping the bike (lubing the chain, checking the oil, etc.), I tried to start it, but it didn’t fire up immediately. Eventually, the starter motor just kept cranking—even after I pulled the key out and flipped the kill switch. The only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery.

I ended up replacing a fuse at the starter relay, and everything seems fine now; the kill switch is also working properly again.

Does anyone have an idea what might have caused this? How is it possible for the starter to keep turning when everything is switched off?

I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve experienced this or know what might be going on.

Thanks in advance!
