⚖️ A New Mexico court has ordered Meta to pay $567 million for measures addressing harms to young people from Facebook and Instagram, following a separate $375 million civil-penalty verdict earlier in 2026.

The latest ruling directs $420 million to treatment services for young people. The balance is earmarked for awareness and prevention, screening services and other costs over five years. 🧠

Judge Bryan Biedscheid also ordered Facebook and Instagram to regularly display information about protection features and tools for addressing inappropriate comments. New Mexico will review those changes and an educational campaign in the state.

Meta said it will appeal and said it remains confident in its record of protecting teens online. The case is being watched as a test of whether state consumer-protection litigation can produce both financial remedies and product changes at major social-media platforms. 📱
