The iconic video game character Super Mario wasnโt just a random name โ he was named after Mario Segale, an American businessman who once leased warehouse space to Nintendo of America in the early 1980s.
When Nintendo struggled to pay rent, Segale reportedly didnโt evict them. Instead, he gave them time to catch up โ a small act that helped the company stay afloat during tough times.
As a thank-you, Nintendo named their mustached plumber โMarioโ, forever immortalizing Segale in gaming history. Without that break from a generous landlord, the Mushroom Kingdom might never have come to life!
