LPT Disable “Auto Join” for Airplane WiFi Networks
If you’re a regular traveler, you probably have run into the annoyance of joining the in-flight Wi-Fi during your trip, landing, and then trying to text or browse immediately upon landing and finding that no messages are going through.
Sometimes, the problem is that you’re still connected to the airplane’s WiFi network and your phone isn’t smart enough to know that it’s not working any more.
One quick solution I’ve found is to configure the airline’s WiFi network settings on your phone to disable “Auto Join”. With this setting configured, you can quickly turn WiFi off then back on and your phone won’t try to reconnect to the airplane WiFi network immediately. It prevents you from having to go in and “Forget” the network but keep WiFi working for all the other things it powers.
It’s a small LPT but it’s been really valuable for me in quickly getting my phone transmitting on cellular instead of trying the airplane’s WiFi.
