A few years back I made the effort to convert all the bulbs in the house over to LEDs. The main initial expense was the in-ceiling can lights which I replaced with Cree fixtures with high color index which have been fantastic, unfortunately no longer manufactured as far as I can tell. The other bulbs have been replaced bit by bit with various bulbs from the box store and/or Amazon -- these all have "7 year" or "10 year" lifespan claims but many seem to be failing much sooner, in some cases I find I'm doing a second replacement in 5 years. And unlike simple glass bulbs these plastic things feel like real landfill stuffers.
If course even bulbs that last 10 years aren't technically BIFL, but what brands of LED bulbs have you found that give good quality light and actually last as specified? I'm not anal enough to date bulbs and save receipts, but I'd also be interested to know if anyone has had luck with manufacturers when submitting early -failure complaints or claims. #lifestyle
