I've been with my girlfriend for about a year. We have a loving relationship, but lately I've realized I've been bottling up a lot of frustrations instead of communicating them properly.
My girlfriend often tells me to talk about my feelings, but sometimes when I do, I feel like she either doesn't fully understand my perspective or understands it but nothing really changes. Because of that, I tend to keep things to myself.
Last night, she really wanted quality time with me and was excited to spend time together. Instead of enjoying the moment, I brought up things that had been bothering me and ended up being harsh with my words. She mostly listened while I vented, and afterward I felt terrible.
This isn't the first time I've let my emotions build up until they exploded, and now I'm dealing with a lot of guilt because I hurt someone I genuinely love.
How do you communicate resentment before it reaches that point? How do you know if you're being unheard versus expecting too much? And how do you actually change a bad communication pattern instead of just apologizing for it every time? #current_events #local source
