In the past year I've gone on a streak of a book per week. It's been a great personal enjoyment. As far as literature go, I was wondering if if there's personal judgement on what one chooses to read next. I'll explain...
In the Lives of Puppets got me back into reading. I saw it on the shelf in a store and figured it would interest me. It did. After that I read other fun (to me) fiction. Then I read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and that locked in the enjoyment of reading...
Then I read some classics like The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Master and Margarita. Different times, different kinds of writing. Then more light fantasy fiction and then the other day I finished Call Me By Your Name. A book I'd have never picked up. I enjoyed it.
Now I'm judging myself for picking up The Paris Apartment. It's a relatively new suspense book. I question myself if I'm wasting time reading something not regarded as Amazing writing, a book to be forgotten in 10, 15, 100 years. A book that will be out of print one day. That I should move on to Ubik instead and make me think.
Does anyone else feel this way? Or do you look at it like watching TV. Some days you watch a poignant film or series and other days a piece of fluff. It's all just entertainment after all.
Thank you for reading. I also posted this to /books but keeps getting deleted. I don't know why. #entertainment
