My family had conditioned me to believe that the words “Jew” and “Jewish” are essentially slurs.
I was conditioned to believe the word “jew” is basically a slur. Currently I’m at a point where I still find myself having to explain to myself that it was just my insanely antisemitic family planting horrible ideals in my head.
My father used to make me recite biased and disgusting “research” and “studies” about how “awful Jews are”. He’d call me a Jew if I misbehaved. He said I’m so Jewish for XYZ belief for every misconception a child has about spirituality. I’m trying to condition myself to understand that “Jew” is not a slur. How in the world can it be a slur???! But years of being told how awful Jews are, how greedy they are, how they’re ruining modern society, how they’re all part of a giant conspiracy to make everyone suffer, it forces me to do a lot of soul searching and research.
With my studies, I’ve learned that Judaism is a beautiful religion, and the only religion that has ever made me feel any peace. I grew up Muslim and all I’ve all I’ve ever felt is oppression, violence, and hatred.
I used to believe that all religion is inherently evil and full of hate. Judaism has taught me the opposite. I hope I can come to a place where I don’t have to remind myself that the words “Jew” or “Jewish” aren’t slurs. #religion source
