Gonna preface this and say yes, I acknowledge I’m lucky to work a low-stakes remote job with a hands off manager (and that the post’s title can’t be generalized to everyone).
My manager is barely present. I know they’re online busy with their own things, but I only hear from them like 2 times each week if I’m lucky. I can literally choose to do my work when I want or literally take the entire day off (unapproved) and no one will know so long as I get my limited tasks done before or relatively after my impromptu absence.
Kinda makes me realize that 1) being “full time” is kind of a joke when my job doesn’t actually take 35 hours/week and 2) accrued PTO and requesting (short) amounts of time off is an attempt to provide structure and limits on something that isn’t technically enforceable, at least not in my case. source
