Planning a large-scale sci-fi city MOC - where do you even start
Been slowly collecting parts for a futuristic city build for about 8 months now, something with a dark cyberpunk feel, think crumbling infrastructure mixed with neon and tech. The inspiration is more Terminator and dystopian than clean Star Wars aesthetic. I've got a rough idea in my head but every time I sit down to actually plan it out I spiral. Seen a few builders talk about splitting it into districts, like separating industrial from residential zones, which makes sense structurally and helps keep the scope manageable. My main concern is stability once you start stacking height, especially if sections need to be moved for display or storage. The cost is also getting real fast. City blocks add up and I keep second-guessing whether to source from Bricklink or, take advantage of some of the current 2026 City sets and strip them for parts. There are actually some decent options in the lineup right now that could work well for base building elements and vehicles without paying a premium for individual pieces. Has anyone tackled a build at this scale and landed on a workflow that actually holds up? Do you plan the full footprint first and then fill it in, or do you anchor one core section and expand outward from there? Also genuinely curious whether people are mixing new retail sets into MOCs right now or going full Bricklink for something this specific. #toys source
