🌊 A glacier-collapse debris flow triggered catastrophic flash flooding across the Nepal–Tibet border region, killing at least 359 people and leaving more than 1,300 missing, according to early reports.
Scientists said a mass of ice and rock may have temporarily dammed a river before backed-up water surged downstream. The precise sequence remains under investigation.
Roads, bridges, homes and hydropower infrastructure were swept away, complicating rescue work. Hundreds of missing people were foreign visitors and pilgrims travelling toward Mount Kailash.
Authorities warned that a barrier lake at the flood site was overflowing and could burst, while helicopters and emergency teams worked to reach isolated communities. 🚁
