Analysed 9GB of my photos before paying for cloud upgrade
I recently hit the 15GB Google Photos free limit and was prompted to upgrade my tier. Before pulling out my card, I decided to review a portion of my gallery to see what I was actually paying to store.
A 9GB sample of my media broke down to: \- 3GB of videos \- 6GB of photos
Here is what I found when I actually looked through it: \- Photos: 3.9GB were near-duplicates (burst shots and multiple takes of the same pose). Another 800MB were just old screenshots and pictures of random objects with zero value.
\-Videos: The 3GB of videos were super bloated. Since I realistically only ever watch them on my phone screen, I compressed them down to 1.9GB. These were also 2-3 years old.
All in all, I saved 5.8GB out of that 9GB.
This made me realise that the cost of not doing this means paying "cloud rent" for storing gigabytes of junk for eternity. #finance source
