Bitcoin & Gold investing guidance

I have been investing in VOO & SCHD mainly for the past 5 years. I want to start investing in Gold & Bitcoin but really unsure of the best way to go about it. I have done some research on buying both through Webull/robinhood. How exactly does that work? Obviously you don’t own the physical gold or bitcoin?

Any information you can provide I would be very thankful. Please explain like I’m 5.
