My MIL gave me her high-end gas dryer because the control board had gone bad and the tumbler would stay running even when the dryer was turned "off" unless the dryer door is left open.
This is a somewhat common problem, and dryers with this problem ends up on Facebook Marketplace, Buy Nothing Group, Nextdoor, Craigslist, etc. because it's usually expensive or even impossible to replace the control board. Most people just leave the door open and call it good.
There is nothing else wrong with the dryer - it's a really nice dryer. And I originally had intended to fix it myself (I have the skills). But I haven't gotten around to fixing it (been busy). The only problem is that if I get distracted and forget to come back to the dryer when it should be done, the tumbler will keep on running until I do -- sometimes several hours later.
I got around this issue by using a wireless smart outlet - the specific one I have has a push button that you can easily press to turn the outlet on and off (in my setup, the outlet is accessible, not hidden behind the washer or dryer). When I need to use the dryer, I turn on the power supplied to the dryer, turn on the dryer's control panel, and then start the drying cycle. I then set the smart outlet timer to turn off the dryer after an hour -- a normal drying cycle is usually about 45 minutes. I can come back to the dryer at any convenient time and don't have to worry about the tumbler running for hours.
