A GPU implementation of ST-FLIP for interactive fluid simulation
I’m implementing ST-FLIP (spatio-temporal FLIP) in Vulkan. This is an implementation of an existing fluid simulation method, running an interactive lab scene with four million particles.
The numerical core is a hybrid particle–grid solver. Particles carry the moving fluid state, while a grid supports the velocity update and pressure projection. PIC/FLIP blending combines interpolation of the updated grid velocity with transfer of the grid velocity change back to particles.
My implementation includes temporal kernels and residual carryover, phase-weighted projection, RK3 particle advection and velocity extrapolation. Moving containers are coupled to the fluid through the solid boundary handling.
