HawaiianTel network maintenance or is my neighborhood oversold

Aloha everyone,

I'm on the 3 gig HawaiianTel fiber plan, and it's been mostly amazing. While I've only once gotten 3 gigs up I typically get 1.8 gigs up, and almost always 2.7 gigs down (out of 2.85).

Lately though while gaming between roughly 9pm until maybe 11? My latency shoots up, and anyone streaming a movie or downloading get their speed severely limited.

Around 1 AM, my ping in game went from my typically stable 90 ms to 195 ms.

I did a speedtest @ speedtest.net , and saw my download was all of 1.33 Mbps and my upload was 182 Mbps https://i.imgur.com/jk1ewKw.png . Again, 3 did symmetrical plan here.

I logged into my router, and holy smokes the packet loss!

We are seemingly hard limited to a whopping 5 Mbps download at the moment (my uncle is streaming stuff on his Roku right now, hogging what little bandwidth we have ATM).

So yeah, I find it hard to below there's network congestion in my neighborhood at this hour, so I'm wondering is there some kind of maintenance or upgrades going on now, or is my neighborhood oversold?

Back in 2014, on Spectrum (or was it still Time Warner / Roadrunner?) you could always tell when the kids got home from school - upload speeds were normal, but after 2:30 the internet was damn near unusable until 10-11 pm, and it took almost 3 months for the cable folks to admit the node was over sold and upgrade it to handle the new bandwidth they were selling.

And lately, HawaiianTel has been feeling exactly like that. They have a fantastic product, but god I hate dealing with their support now.

So yeah, anyone here got any insight? This is upcountry Maui, past Pukalani and juuuuuuuust past King K high school area.

About to hit submit here, no one's using the internet finally, and I ran another speedtest. 1.8 Mbps down and 492 Mbps up https://www.speedtest.net/result/19434084200 . Router is still showing a hard limit of 5 Mbps down, total.

Guess it's a sign it's time for bed.
