Is it silly that I want to self-teach myself Physics starting from brushing up on my maths? Currently a software engineer
I’ve always had a fascination for physics, the big questions in life, and how the universe really works. The sciences were always fascinating to me, especially chemistry and physics. However, I focused more on astronomy and played video games like KSP in my teens. I’m more of a gamer type in general.
I got my bachelors in Computer Science and am kicking ass in this company I’m in now working as a backend developer.
What’s changed is that I got an ADHD diagnosis and am now on meds. They’ve made me more productive than I’ve ever been, and I’m thinking of doing things outside of gaming in my free time.
I want to gain a deeper understanding of the universe. There’s always a subject or two I’m interested in and I hit a point where it all feels like handy wavy magic. In reality, I just read about how things work but not WHY they work the way they do. I realized I would need a deeper understanding to really explore and internalize what I was reading.
In my field, we have something called leetcode, which is a tool used by many to solve theoretical computer science problems. I’ve done many of them and am drawn to them. I realized I’m quite good, and even better when on meds. Many of these questions focused on math and logic concepts. I realized that I could actually do somewhat okay in whatever I set my mind to!
I’m good at maths, got an A in Calc 2, but It’s been so long since I’ve studied. I was thinking of going over the basics of Algebra, Trig, Calculus, and then maybe following a similar path to what some universities do by reading test books for physics, university physics, etc.
Is there any easier way to go about this? There’s so much I want to learn and I’m paralyzed because I only have one life to live and one 2023 to enjoy, but I want to start doing thing things I want starting now.
