Feeling conflicted about White Nights. Feeling conflicted…

Feeling conflicted about White Nights.

Feeling conflicted about White Nights.

I recently bought "White Nights" by Fydor Dostoevsky, as I've heard he's a remarkable writer,I also wanted to try a classic, so I thought it would be the best intro.

After reading it I am left somewhere between confusion and unsatisfaction that I had to drag myself across the pages. I mean, what's the point: guy meets girl, they fall in love?? But the neighbour of the girl comes back (the conflict),the girl leaves him and our guy is left with same dreaming mind he had 200 pages ago.

There was no character devlopment nor a proper conflict, and a slow ass pacing(nothing wrong with that just that if it is slow paced it should build a more intricate world) and even when a conflict arose, our guy just went with it.

Maybe classics are not my cup of tea, but are all classics like this?
Or am I missing the point here? Did I get it completely wrong, because their must be a reason behind all the love that it gets?
Should I give some of his other works a shot?

Ps: I am not hating on the book just sharing my opinion and asking for yours.
