The third (and no less important than the previous ones) major current that contributes to and complements Chespirito's humor was, without a doubt, the Spanish American picaresque novel, a literary tradition founded on the spirit of Renaissance humanism, which began with the work Lazarillo de Tormes (an anonymous novel from 1554) and was revived by the geniuses of Quevedo (with El Buscón (1626), Cervantes (with his Don Quixote of La Mancha, 1605), and the Mexicans Fernández de Lizardi and José Rubén Romero, authors of El Periquillo Sarniento (1816) and La Vida inútil de Pito Pérez (1938), respectively.
