I read a Man Called Ove a few years back, and honestly I really enjoyed reading it. It had great themes of loneliness and isolation, as well as found family which I usually love. However, I just finished And Every Morning The Road Home Gets Longer And Longer, and hoooly shit it was bad. Like, really bad.
An eon ago I studied creative writing at university; and AEMTRHGLAL reads exactly like the kind of short story my classmates might have written. It was trite, shallow, straight up boring, and the overwrought language drove me insane by the end. And it was less than 100 pages!!
My big question is this: is it worth reading his other works? Is AEMTRHGLAL more his standard, and Ove was the standout, or is it the other way around? My mum read Beartown and had similar complaints as me, so I’m not confident, but I’ve heard Backman lauded online so much #entertainment source
