Middlemarch - Reading Experience
I started reading Middlemarch about a week ago. I’m about 200 pages in and I’m finding it a really novel experience (excuse the pun).
On the face of it, nothing has really happened for 200 pages but the interesting thing is that I feel like it’s changing how I read. This is by no means my first classic or ‘doorstopper’ novel but I often read quite quickly and can race through even quite complex or lengthy books.
But here, the pace is so steady and sure, I’m not thinking about how much I’ve read, instead im slowing myself down to really immerse myself in it.
Every person is described in detail, every moment and scene takes its time. The whole experience is like being held by the hand and expertly guided through a world.
Anyone else had a similar experience?
