Tropical Storm Moke was moving toward Hawaii on Saturday, with heavy rain and strong winds forecast for the Big Island as recovery from Hurricane Lala continued. 🌧️
Forecasters expected 5–10 inches of rain on windward and southeastern Big Island slopes, with isolated totals up to 15 inches. Parts of east Maui could receive up to 4 inches.
The National Weather Service warned that recently saturated ground could make flash flooding, road closures and mudslides more likely. Moke was forecast to pass south of the islands and continue westward near them into early Tuesday.
Lala had already damaged roads, bridges, homes and other infrastructure; the Associated Press reported two storm-related deaths and more than 8,000 Big Island customers without power. Officials urged residents to monitor forecasts and prepare supplies. ⚠️
