Do Van Dwellers use public services without paying the taxes to support them?
Property taxes fund help fund stuff like libraries and parks. These property taxes are paid by both homeowners and renters. Van dwellers frequently use these services. Many van dwellers also park on private business parking lots. Again, they benefit from the work the business owners do to maintain those businesses.
It seems to me that van or car dwellers benefit from the work of others. In a way, the rest of society supports their living and lifestyle to some degree. The sales tax generated by their purchases are probably not anywhere near to the amount a local contributes to property taxes either through their rent or through home ownership.
Whatever happen to contributing to society or giving back? Or will individualism continue to create this nasty no-real-identity country like the US?
