Hosted 30 murder mystery parties and think I've exhausted the market. What now? I've hosted around 30 murder mystery dinner parties over the past 10 years, and I think I've finally reached the end of the market. I'm looking for advice from other longtime hosts: where did you go from here? My group's niche seems to be very specific: What we like: Predetermined murderer One fixed solution The murderer knows they're the murderer Minimal scripted dialogue Character booklets with secrets and motives Multiple rounds of play Heavy roleplaying and player interaction 8–12 players 2–4+ hours of gameplay What we don't like: Random killers Multiple endings Replayable mysteries The murderer being selected at the end Highly scripted games where everyone reads cards We've played most or all of: How to Host a Murder Watersdown Affair Class of '54 Grapes of Frath Last Train from Paris Archaeologically Speaking? It's the Pits! Hoo Hung Woo Powar and Greede Wall Street Scandal (owned but not played yet) Printable Murder Mystery Games / MurderMysteryGames Fairytale Alice in Wonderland Oz Da Vinci Jane Austen Titanic Pirate Western Witches Game of Thrones Circus Really all of their other titles Other games Alpine Hotel Death by Chocolate Champagne Murder Murder at the Grand Hotel Murder at Mardi Gras Secrets of Emerald Hill Secrets of the Silver Screen Last Chance Saloon Holiday Horror at von Herr Universal A Fatal Shot at the Bourbon Rectifier Halftime Hysteria Pasta, Passion, and Pistols At this point, I'm not really looking for theme recommendations. Gameplay matters much more than theme. For those of you who have exhausted the How to Host games and the major modern publishers, where did you go next? Smaller publishers? Custom-written games? LARP scenarios? Designing your own? I feel like there must be other hosts out there who have run into this same problem. #games source | earnings |
