What's the deal with makeup in school here? I know it's basically universally banned in Korea and Japan, but I always see tiktoks of high school girls clearly wearing makeup. How do they get away with this?
Is it perhaps banned on paper but not strictly enforced? That was my experience in the US as well (I grew up in America). For example, makeup was not allowed at my middle school (I was born in 2004) but the bully or delinquent type girls would still wear it—they usually got in trouble at school, but for other unrelated things. So one could still wear it but usually that would make others associate you with misbehavior and deliquency, and peers may call you names like thot or hoe—the US is a big country though, so your mileage may vary (I am based in California). It becomes more lax as you go through high school, though most 1st and 2nd years still don't wear it at school, and even the upperclassmen girls don't care enough to put it on before school (we come to school in jeans if not sweatpants, unless you specifically went to some elite private school with uniforms).
